— Carolina Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said Thursday he has made a trade for defenseman Ryan Gallant, clearing the way for him to join Calgary’s blueline in 2018.
Gallant, who turns 25 in December, was the top pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.
The 6-foot-2, 202-pounder was ranked No. 22 overall by the Calgary Flames.
“I think it’s a really good fit for us.
He’s an excellent skater, a good puck-moving defenseman,” Tallon told NHL.com.
“We’re trying to build a really solid foundation for him in Calgary, and I think he fits that.”
Gallant has appeared in eight games this season with the Calgary Hitmen, posting one assist and nine penalty minutes.
The defenseman has played in 68 career NHL games, scoring four goals and adding 18 assists.
The Hitmen finished the season with a 20-13-5 record.
