Amazon, Wal-Mart and Amazon.com have all said they will open outdoor marketplaces in their hometowns in 2018.
In a statement on Tuesday, Amazon said it will open “The Farmer’s Market,” the first in a new chain of outdoor markets in its hometowns, on March 3, 2018.
Walmart said it has launched “The Outdoor Market” in Washington, D.C., on March 13.
The Outdoor Markets, which are part of a larger chain, will open in 2019 in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle and Austin, Texas.
Amazon said it plans to open its first indoor market in the U.S. in San Jose, California, in 2019.
Wal-Mart announced its plans to start an outdoor market in Seattle in 2019, and Wal-Marts plans to begin its outdoor market on Feb. 25 in Seattle.
Walton said the two cities are close enough geographically to offer outdoor markets for the foreseeable future.
Amazon said its next outdoor market will open on Feb 28 in Chicago.
Walmarts outdoor market was previously the first of its kind in the country.
