This week marks the 40th anniversary of the birth of African American composer, lyricist and producer Weird Al Yankovics music career.
In the process, he also becomes the first American-born artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the same honor bestowed upon Elvis Presley and Bruce Springsteen.
In his own words:I think of my father as the guy who gave me the instrument, and then took it and played it to the world.
I think of him as the person who put on my shoes and brought me to this place, and now I can finally put them on.
I want to make sure everyone knows what it was like to have an African American in a white world.
