By Jurgens Klopp | January 29, 2020 04:05:20As he prepares to lead Liverpool through the season and then into the Champions League semi-finals, Jurgent Klopp wants to create a squad that can be built on a foundation of success.
This week the Reds manager revealed that he has no intention of signing any new deal with former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, but has made clear his belief that there is a place for another top-class coach in the club’s history.
Klopp was speaking at an event to celebrate the club signing new captain Jordan Henderson from Manchester City for £30 million, but he said he would not make any signings until the end of the season.
“I don’t think I have a big target,” he said.
“When I look at the team we have, there are four or five players who are very young and talented and I want to see that in a good way.”
We will see if I can have a team of players who can play in a top team.
I want a team with quality.
“But right now, we have four or 5 players who will be available for the end [of the season].”
“I have been with three different clubs [Manchester City, Barcelona and Liverpool] and I am very happy where I am, but I have never had a big problem in my career.”‘
We are not a team who has won many trophies’Klopp has always said he will only sign a new deal if he believes he has a chance of winning a trophy.
But with a Europa League final against Bayern Munich on the horizon, he wants to ensure that the Liverpool squad can put a big dent in their title rivals.
“Our aim is to win the title, but not if we are not going to win it,” he told the club website.
“If we are going to be in the final, then we have to be a team that can win the trophy.”
For me, it’s always about the future and about being able to make that dream come true.
“The main thing is to put our team in the best shape possible.
I think that we are a team whose goal is to be at the top of the league.”
It’s not about me, but about the team.
It’s the same for everyone.
“And we have a very strong team.
If you see what happens with the other teams, it doesn’t really matter who you are.”
This year we have been very strong.
In the Europa League [against Bayern], we played with a lot of energy, with a strong team, and then it was difficult to come back from a 3-0 defeat.
“In the Champions league, we didn’t play like that.
We were more relaxed.
I am sure that we can be better.”
